Probably the biggest trend of Fall 2012 that is carrying over to spring and summer is the sportswear trend. At first, I will admit, I was wary of this trend, as it seemed a bit frumpy and reminded me of high-school gym class – not my finest moment. However, the first time I tried on a pair of silk track pants, I never turned back. By far the comfiest of recent trends, the sportswear trend has been taken to a new level by incorporating high-end fabrics with looser silhouettes.
Yes, you see correctly – Milly took a mesh top (flashback to picking teams in gym class, anyone?) and made it ultra trendy with a sportswear-inspired skirt (also incorporating the popular black and white trend), and layered it with a tweed motorcycle jacket. Let’s just say, if my gym class uniforms was this cute, I would have been a much better athlete.
Here are those silk track pants I spoke of! I love the pops of color, and the best part is how comfortable and effortless this look is.
So how can you incorporate the sportswear trend into your wardrobe? If you’re skeptical, I say start small. Instead of trying to pair baggy, silk track pants with an oversized sweatshirt top, try pairing the pants with a slimmer top. Then try a sweatshirt with a skinny pant. It’s a good way to ease into the trend without feeling frumpy. Also, adding feminine accessories can help soften the look, so try adding a necklace or earrings.
